Marlies Verleyen
I am Marlies a passionate biomedical sciences graduate from Ghent University and recently started an exciting doctoral journey to investigate Genetic Predictors of Joint Shape and Cartilage Mechanics. We aim to investigate associations between common genetic variants and musculoskeletal development/morphogenesis that will help to predict future risk for joint disease. This interdisciplinary research guided by Prof. Dr. Emmanuel Audenaert (orthopedic surgery), in close collaboration with Prof. Dr. Isabelle Van Herzeele (vascular surgery) and Prof. Dr. Bert Callewaert (medical genetics). This dedicated team of orthopedists, (bio)medical scientists, engineers, and geneticists. Beyond my academic pursuits, I find joy in dancing with my hiphop team, Funky Fresh, where our passion once secured a 3rd place at the world championships.
